Rejigged for website - introductory text

The 2022-23 course comprises a set of core modules and four tracks.  Each track represents a specialism within machine learning and intelligence and comes with its own core modules and a wide selection of electives.  Tracks for 2022-2023 are:

• machine learning
• speech and language processing
• computer vision and robotics
• human-computer interaction

An additional elective module will be chosen either from the course syllabus or the Engineering Department’s fourth year undergraduate offering (room capacity and timetabling allowing).

Although students will take more modules in their chosen area, the majority of modules are shared across all tracks and taken by the entire cohort. 

Research Project  From mid-Lent term onwards students will work on a research project leading to a dissertation.  The research area will be related to the student’s chosen track.

Teaching Methods  Most teaching will be via traditional lecture courses, some with associated practical classes. Coursework will be emphasised in several of the taught modules. Software projects aimed at implementing algorithms and modelling methods will be central to the practical modules and the research project.
